This dataset contains all the Coastal Waterbody Status results recorded in accordance with European Communities (Water Policy) Regulations 2003 (SI No. 722/2003). The regulation objectives include the attainment of good status in waterbodies that are of lesser status at present and retaining good status or better where such status exists

Provenance information The EU Water Framework Directive (2000/60/EC) establishes a framework for the protection, improvement and management of surface water and groundwater. The overall aim for surface waters, which include coastal water is to achieve at least good ecological status and good chemical status as well as preventing deterioration in those waters that have been classified as high or good.
