These areas are created legally under Section 10(2)(g) of the Planning and Development Act 2000 - 2010. This allows for groups of buildings, streets, villages, small towns and larger areas to be designated as Architectural Conservation Areas. Other ACA's may be added over time. Within the County Development Plan, a number of policies apply. This dataset is a polygon dataset where the boundary of the polygon is the legal boundary of the ACA

Provenance information This data was digitised using Ordnance Survey Ireland raster and vector information and from notes made on field visits. A number of map scales were used 1:1000, 1:2500, 1:5,000. The original Six Inch Series were referred to.
