Provenance information | As the records come from different sources, no common methodology was applied. Incidental records are present in this dataset along with records as non-targeted species and as part of dedicated Pine marten surveys. Publication reference for the National Pine marten survey 2007: O’Mahony, D., O’Reilly, C. & Turner, P. (2007) National pine marten survey of Ireland: an assessment of the current distribution of pine marten in the Republic of Ireland. Unpublished report to the Forest Service and National Parks & Wildlife Service. Survey records were supplied to NPWS mainly in MS Excel format, and records were uploaded into the NPWS Species database. Spot-checks of record locations against OSI Discovery series mapping were carried out prior to the upload, and Recorder 6 validation rules applied. The records were then exported from the Species database as a polygon shapefile showing squares, with the side lengths of the squares corresponding to the precision in which the records were provided. |
