Provenance information | This map is based on the results of a National Radon Survey ( http://www.epa.ie/pubs/reports/radiation/RPII_Radon_Dwellings_Rad_Surv_02.pdf) During this survey, radon measurements were carried out in a number of homes in each 10 km grid square of the National Grid. Houses were chosen at random to give a uniform distribution across the country. In all, over 11,000 homes were measured. The results were used to predict the percentage of homes in each 10 km grid square with radon concentrations in excess of the national Reference Level of 200 bequerel per cubic metre (Bq/m3). The radon map has five categories: less than 1 per cent, 1 to 5 per cent, 5 to 10 per cent, 10 to 20 per cent and greater than 20 per cent. If you live in an area designated as 'greater than 20%', this means that more than 20 per cent (1 in 5) homes in that grid square are likely to have radon concentrations above the Reference Level. |
