This dataset contains all the Transitional Waterbody Status results recorded in accordance with European Communities (Water Policy) Regulations 2003 (SI no. 722/2003). The regulation objectives include the attainment of good status in waterbodies that are of lesser status at present and retaining good status or better where such status exists at present by 22nd December 2015.

Provenance information The EU Water Framework Directive (2000/60/EC) establishes a framework for the protection, improvement and management of surface and ground waters. The overall aim for surface waters, which include transitional (estuaries and lagoons) is to achieve at least good ecological status and good chemical status, by 2015, as well as preventing deterioration in those waters that have been classified as high or good.
