Commuting in Ireland

Commuting in Ireland

About the Author/Organisation

Arup Ireland, a leader in design and engineering, combines their expertise with data analysis to deliver valuable insights and project management tools.

About the Project

As part of the Open Data Engagement Fund 2017/2018, Arup created an interactive dashboard using commuting data from Census 2006, 2011 and 2016. The Commuting in Ireland dashboard is available to anyone online through the Tableau Public platform.

Why it's a Showcase

The dashboard utilises commuting data from the Irish Census, which demonstrates the potential of Open Data to address real-world challenges like traffic congestion. The project also demonstrates Interactive Data Visualisation. The project transforms complex data into an interactive and user-friendly dashboard. This facilitates exploration of commuting trends and empowers users to gain valuable insights.

Impact of the Showcase

By providing clear insights into commuting patterns, the dashboard can support policymakers in developing data-driven strategies to address traffic congestion, improve infrastructure, and promote sustainable transportation options. This project also raises public awareness about commuting patterns and potentially encourage discussions and actions to improve transportation systems. This showcase also serves as an inspiration for others to explore and utilise Open Data for impactful applications.
