Bird Atlas 2007 - 2011

Tuairimí: 345
Rátáil oscailteachta:

A survey of bird distribution, in summer and winter, over the four year period between 2007 and 2011.

Geographic Coverage: The survey covered both Britain and Ireland, but only the Republic of Ireland subset of data are displayed.

Temporal Coverage: Four winters and four summers from November 2007 to July 2011.

Species Groups recorded: bird, birds

Dataset Status: Complete, except for records of some of Ireland's rarest birds.Sighting of red-necked phalarope, white-tailed eagle, golden eagle, black-tailed godwit, marsh harrier and little ringed plover during the breeding season, and golden eagle in winter, are not mapped in order to safeguard these species from possible disturbance.

Additional Information: Further information some of the key findings of the survey are presented on the BirdWatch Ireland website http://www.birdwatchireland.ie/OurWork/ResearchSurveys/Atlas/tabid/487/Default.aspx

Eolas Dualfhoinse Hiqh quality. All data underwent rigourous data verification and validation. Data Capture Method: Two fieldwork methods were used. As part of the Roving Records, bird record from every 10-km square were collected, which were used to describe the distribution range. The Timed Tetrad Visits (TTVs) method gathered records from tetrads (2 x 2-km squares) and were used to generate information on relative abundance of a species within a 10-km square. The data were used to produce the BTO/SOC/IWC Bird Atlas 2007-11 (Balmer, D., Gillings, S., Caffrey, B., Swann, B., Downie, I. & Fuller, R. Bird Atals 2007-11: The breeding and wintering birds of Britain & Ireland. BTO Books, Thetford). Data Capture Purpose: The purpose of the survey was to map the distribution of all bird species, generate information on patterns of relative abundance, quantify distribution changes, inform conservation priorities, and engage a new generation of recorders.
