The Marine Institute and Met Eireann have jointly operated a manual weather station in Furnace, Newport, Co. Mayo for almost 50 years. In early 2005 this was upgraded to an Automatic Synoptic Weather Station and the data is supplied to the Marine Institute by Met Eireann on a daily basis. The Furnace Weather Station collects the following, DateTime, Max Air Temperature (degC), Min Air Temperature (degC), Mean Air Temperature (degC), Total Rainfall (mm), Mean Wind Speed (kn), Max Gust (kn), Solar Radiation (Wtt\m2), Relative Humidity (%), Atmospheric Pressure (mbar), Earth Temperature at 30,50,100 cm and Soil Temperature at depth 5,10,20,(degC).
