Eolas Dualfhoinse | The Environmental Noise Regulations 2006 was transposed as EU 2002/49/EC in full. Environmental Noise is defined as unwanted or harmful outdoor sound created by human activities including Road, Rail, Air Traffic and Industry. Dublin and Cork fell under the mapping threshold for agglomerations as set out in the regulations; cities in excess of 250,000 inhabitants. All roads, rail and industrial point sources within Dublin and Cork Agglomerations were mapped. The decibel bands were set out in the regulations. The bands where then used along with census data to calculate the number of people exposed to noise within the different decibel levels. This data was then used to assist in creating Action Plans by the Action Planning Authorities. |
