Ireland Public (Bank) Holidays iCalendar File

Oscail

An iCalendar file with all the public holidays observed in Ireland. The UK currently do this:

England and Wales: https://www.gov.uk/bank-holidays/england-and-wales.ics Scotland: https://www.gov.uk/bank-holidays/scotland.ics Northern Ireland: https://www.gov.uk/bank-holidays/northern-ireland.ics

Would be brilliant to have a version for Ireland, make it much easier then the (often) unreliable third party calendars floating around online.

Any chance this could be followed up on? Great idea

This would be a great idea and to make sure that the dates are the dates that the holiday actaully falls on, as in the New Years Day holiday day was the 2nd of Jan 2023.

Neil, it seems that school holidays are now standardised as well, except for the summer holidays. https://www.gov.ie/en/service/388196-school-holiday-dates/

@Mike H: any public holidays (ie. bank holidays) are also school holidays. After that they vary from school to school. The intention here is only to cover the officially sanctioned holidays.

Would be great to have some information on school holidays also

Thanks Luis, I fully agree. Shame not to have an official source.

I'm surprised there is nothing already. The UK GOV even has a json endpoint. Although public holiday calculation in IE is rather easy, it would be an excellent service to be used by companies and business in a reliable way.

    Hi Paul,

While it is great Mozilla host that, they have disassociated themselves with Thunderbird, who knows how long Thunderbird will be maintained and the calendars?

That's why I think it's better to have an official Govt. source for this.

Mozilla maintain a list of public calendar files in ics format at https://www.thunderbird.net/media/caldata and have an Irish one here https://www.thunderbird.net/media/caldata/IrelandHolidays2014-2021.ics

  • Paul Power (Unauthenticated user) (6 bliana ó shin)

Mozilla maintain a downloadable set of public ics files and includes an Irish ics file - https://www.thunderbird.net/media/caldata/IrelandHolidays2014-2021.ics

Thanks Paul, yes it would be great as structured data, meaning we can import it easily.

See here for an example of the unstructured data - ideally share the same in a standardized calendar format (e.g. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ICalendar) http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/employment/employment_rights_and_conditions/leave_and_holidays/public_holidays_in_ireland.html
